Day 3

It was the last day of the conference. After breakfast and refreshing game, Final Debate Competition‘‘Leaders perform away from sentiment’’ started and the winner result was announed after finish.

Here is the role plays on Leadership that all of them have already training since the first day of the conference.It is friutful and very funny.






YCC has a great change that Prof.Dr.Mengly J.Quach President and Principal of AII & AIS and his colleages take his busy time to share about how to be a good leader.All the participants are much appriciated and understand well with his presentation and follow by Q & A actively.





This conference is closed by useful and interesting remarks of Ms.Lena Kjellberg.

Day 2

The second day of the National Youth Conference come,All the participants are early to get up and have nice breakfast, Activities of the second day are Experience sharing from US Study Vistiton Leadership by the Champion of Youth Leadership Challenge(YLC) in seasion 2&3 by Mr.Sreang Lalune and Mr.Touch Norin and also show and share knowledge,experience and project developmentby Ms.Yun Sophal and Ms.Kol Chanleakena,two final contestants of YLC seasion 4 then we have Q&A session for the participants.Next we are divide all of them into 9 different working group of 15 to identify the priotory problem in community,project developmental strategy and project development process in 9 different group.

After the lunch break it is session for prepartation and fundraising training and individed into 9 groups that each group has 15 persons come from different provinces and all of them started doing the fund raising activities in the area that YCC provided by taking just only one hour and half all of YCC networks fundraising total money $ 181 and 4055250 riels from nine groups.The winner groups have a present from YCC and loser groups don’t get but they don’t feel upset even thought they get present or not,but what they think are the orphans at BOREY Sihanouk Ville Orphans that they really need much help from us and it is a good activities that we can help them as possible as we can do.

we also get much knowledge,creative idear and experience sharing on Panel Disscussion about Nationl Youth Policy by Mr.Yong Kim Eng,Director of PDP,Ms.Sara Haraldsson,the Board member of LSU and also the YCC’s position toward National Youth Policy,Ms.Mao Pouthyrouth, Program Coordinator of YCC.





At night all the participants had a delicious dinner and really enjoyied 1st round debate Competition Group1 about ‘‘Role of young people is to study not to involve in any community deveolopment work’’ and Group 2 ‘‘Female is a weak gender,thus womean can not work as man’’after the debate we have cultural performance by
each group provicial networks.

Day 1

Opening Ceremony:
Sunday, 14 September2007 is the first day of opening ceremony of national youth conference was organized by Youth Council of Cambodia(YCC) at Golden Sand Hotel and supported by Forum Syd,LSU, USAID,and IRI which participated by hundred of youth networks, representatives from YCC member organizations, YCC program staff, resource persons, and extinguished guests.
The opening ceremony started with the program,self-introduction, national anthem, and self -introduction from Donors,Guest Speakers,YCC staff, provincial youth networks and Youth Leadership challenge contestants. and also followed by welcoming remarks from:

director of International Republican Institute(IRI)










3.Ms.Vong Socheata,Project Management Specialist
(Democracy and Governance Units) of USAID

In order to be more aware of YCC works,all ycc provincial representatives from 12 target areas share their experiences,success story, and lesson-learned,regarding YCC works and impacts from the whole year.They notified the importance of youth participation in social works and the involvment of youth networks in local level for the positive change in their community.



Beyond that,Ms Mao Pouthyroth,Program Coordinator of Youth Council of Cambodia(YCC) presented YCC mission,programs and its activities with youths in order to enhance and strengthen democracy in community level,especially involve more with young people in human right,gender, and democracy process.




Breakout Workshops:
The conference divided participants into 3 simultaneous breakout workshops and the participants are free to choose any one of them at their preference.The topics of the breakout workshops include: 1). Article Writing which facilitated by Mr. Touch Sinouern, Kampuchea Newpaper, 2). Debate which facilitated by Mr. Mean Lux, Program Officer (IRI), and 3). Leadership which facilitated by Mr. Soth Nimol, Youth Officer(UN).

Pre-Conference

Departure from YCC to Golden Sand Hotel
YCC Provincial Representatives recruited fifteen hard-working,strong commitable and accountable networks careful and accurately in each 12 target provinces or towns to participate in National Youth Conference at Golden Sand Hotel in Sihanouk Ville,which host from 14-16 September 2008.The criterias for the selection are based on their activeness in local governance and democratic participation such as their attendance at commune council meetings, petitions circulations,other meeting,public forums ,local workshops/seminars, follow-up meeting with commune councils and local authorities and network meeting in their communities.
After every network in different commune already got information they feel very excited,so happy,well-prepared and look forward to the conference come when the departure comes all of them meet together at YCC headquarter by showing happy-smile face,strong,brave and very closed to each other, although they are from different provinces or towns .
We departed from Phnom Penh to Sihanouk by four different buses and provinces during we were on bus,we introduce each other,disscuss and tell a a joke or sing a song very happily.

Ms.Lak Smy,a network from Takeo Province feel happy because of I can know new friends, and it is a great chance for me to participate.



Mr.Noun Vannak,a network from Prey Veng Province said that I am not sleep well afterIknow thatI have chance to joint conference.It is the time for me to this event and I can learn a lot of new things from this event especialy I can make relationship with each other.


Ms.Thal Sophea, Kampong Cham Province said that I am very glad and first great time that I am able to participate.I will share my ability,skills and experience and also learn from other.


Mr.Um Chhorvorn from Siem Reap Provice feel that i feel happy eventhought it is the second time for me.I am well-prepared from home and responsible for my duties in this NYC.



Ms.Doung Kimnet from Phnom Penh said that i feel gald but I feel a little bit tired.

Mr.Phum Vichet from Svay Rein said my journey is difficulty because of raining but I still appreciated to this conference.

Now we arrive at Golden Sand Hotel in Sihaknouk Ville at 6:50 minute, all networks leave from the bus and meet altogether around the hotel by showing happy-face and then the YCC organizers distributed material and allowance and key-room to them. Besides these we also have a nice dinner

NYC Background

Youth Councicl of Cambodia(YCC) will hosting 4th National Youth Conference about Youth and Leadership for Community Development at Golden Sand Hotel, Sihanouk Ville on September 14-16,2008.The Conference will participated by hundreds young people from 12 different target provinces and various NGOs partners with sponsored by Forum Syd,LSU,USAID,and IRI.

This is 4rd time that YCC celebrated the great event for youths to meet and exchange knowledge,culture and experiences on community work with one another.

BACKGROUND
Every year since 2005, Youth Council of Cambodia (YCC) has been conducting this Youth Conference to bring over 300 young people from at least nine different target provinces through out Cambodia to meet and exchange knowledge on community work with one another. Those young people are active youth network who have been very much involved themselves in community development in their respective provinces through the encouragement and guidance of each YCC’s provincial representative.

This year another 132 young people from 12 different target provinces will be given an excellent opportunity to interact in different activities and to get new learning experiences from their fellow friends who are coming from different parts of Cambodia with different living background/ environment. At the same time, they will have a chance to meet with respective donors and experts in different fields related to the theme of this year conference.

The conference will provide them a venue for their capacity development and instill the knowledge of leadership as well as the spirit of team building and solidarity among them. This conference will also promote their ongoing work and encourage for their grater participation in their community, especially in the issues that may affect their lives.

NATIONAL YOUTH CONFERENCE THEME 2008:
“Youth and Leadership for Community Development”

The selection of this theme for National Youth Conference 2008 is in recognition to the fact that youth are the future leaders of the country. To be ready to become the leader of the nation, youth need to be very much involved in community development in their respective community and they also need to be aware of the situation and the problems around them.

To be able to build a strong leader of Cambodia, capacity of young Cambodian need to be strengthened and built through different activities and trainings.

OBJECTIVE:
To encourage and promote ongoing active community work of youth network in their target provinces
To provide a venue to all youth network to get to learn new things from local and international experts in the fields of their work, especially to build leadership skill among youth network
To provide a change for youth network to exchange experiences and understanding with other network from other provinces
To strengthen the collaboration among Cambodian youth networks

TARGET AUDIENCES
132 youth network from 12 target provinces: Phnom Penh, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Takeo, Kampot, Prey Veng, Svay Rieng, Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Siem Reap, Battambang, and Pursat.

PROPOSED ACTIVITIES
The conference will bring together 132 youth network from 12 different provinces. Donor representatives of international community, director of civil society and private sector who have the expertise in related topic about youth and leadership will be invited to join with our youth network and be guest speakers in this conference.

The event will be youth-led and youth friendly with a range of activities including plenary sessions; youth work shop, role play, debate on leadership, article writing together with different kinds of competition as well as outreach activities (collecting rubbish), fund raising for charity, and entertainment (cultural performances).

The conference is composed of three days activities including cultural presentation from each province at night time and YCC’s IEC materials show. All 132 participants will compete among themselves in different activities such as: article writing, debate, role play of good leader, project development as well as fund raising activities. Winning group will be award. Format of the activities is designed to all youth network to expose them in different working environment – some activities required them to work with other young people from other provinces and some within their group from the same province. By doing so, all participants from different provinces will have a chance to work and learn from one another.

Besides different competitions and interactive activities, there will be a panel presentation on “How to Become a Good Leader”, experience sharing from the two champions of Youth Leadership Challenges season 2 & 3 on their Leadership Training and study tour in the US as well as a presentation on the National Youth Policy which has been developed and lobbied by NYP Net together with the sharing on the development of National Youth Policy in Sweden by National Swedish Youth Council.

ORGANIZATION
It is a youth- lead event. The Youth Conference is organized by Youth Council of Cambodia (YCC). Different sub-committee will be formed to coordinate and facilitate the entire event such as: facilitator, security, reporting, web blog designer/update, logistic supplier, outreach coordinator, overall coordinator, … etc.

18 youth network who used to participate in the previous conference together with the 5 champions of Youth Leadership program in season 1-3 and two finalist of season 4 will participate to support the organizing of the event. Basic knowledge of facilitation and leadership skill will also be provided to these young people in order them to be able to play their key roles as youth facilitator during the conference.

MEDIA COVERAGE
T-shirt will be printed to support the event. Media will be invited to cover pictures of the event. Web blog of the Youth Conference will be developed and posted the activities of the event.
